I don't know if YSS is better than original, but it was a third of the price. 325 vs 1050! I was offered Hagon at about 500 but opted for YSS as I know I wouldn't notice the difference.

Actually, in the event of a replacement, are there any recommendations for 3rd-party shocks which are better than the OEM?

Congratulations your hairiness. :046: I must look into my harsh suspension too. At less than 10k miles it seems unlikely that my rear shock is toast, but the suspension is jarring on rough roads. I am using the "Veejay" specs.

The Lord be praised!

New YSS shock fitted and MOT passed. It's like a new flippin' bike and I love it!

Rode the A44 coming back from Aberystwyth to Kington - about 60 miles of fast A road with some fairly tight bends coming through the hills - 'making progress' was fantastic - makes you glad to be a biker.

A mate got his BMW F900XR seat done at this place in Newport, Wales - less than £100 and an excellent job.

Touratech doesn't sell this kind of product for the Crosstourer, unfortunately. I think you can investigate the plate they sell for Africa Twin, especially for the older models, like pre-2019, if it makes any difference. Luggage-wise, the connection point was identical to the CT if I remember correctly. If a local store allows you to test it, if not, you can probably order it online and return it in case it doesn't fit.

@thetrecker and @Pickaxe  Thanks for the kind replies, hopefully my mistake can be a lesson for others.

Nice to see an honest reply and good outcome. We've all done similar.
