You can see the original mounting holes either side of the washers under the Nyloc nuts. Just a wee bit of bodgery and it's a useful bit of kit!

I have one on my bike. The reason for the extra holes drilled by the previous owner is that the original ones are much too far apart. But with some judicial bending and making the holes into slots, mine has fitted and functions fine. Still a bargain at £4!

If your post meant that you'd sent a pm to me I haven't received it. Also, my satnav mount doesn't look like either of the two which Hound posted pictures of. I got it second-hand in with a job lot of other Crosstourer accessories so now I'm thinking maybe it isn't actually for a Crosstourer but the extra holes have been drilled to make it fit? ![]() ![]() 6

If this seems too daunting for anyone suffering the same issue the '29' fastener is not at all hard to drill out with a decent/sharp drill bit and takes just a few minutes.

Your mission is to get a spanner or small socket on bolt 37 on the below picture. Its a right faff but just about possible. Remove all the fixings for the outer coloured panel except the pesky one obviously. pull the panel outwards so the lugs release from the grommets, (you did remember to put some vaseline on them last time didnt you). make sure you lift the panel over the collar where 25 fits. Now make sure all the fixings are out (except 29 obvs) holding the panel away from the bike and push and waggle forward to try and release the 2 hooks next to the head light. Its a bit daunting and would be easier with 2 people, one to pull out as the other pushes forwards, but can be done. Once the panel is waving in the breeze and only secured by 29 you should be able to get a spanner/socket on 37. It takes a while to remove because it is stupidly long and waaay oversize for what it does. Once it is removed you can pull panel six out to release the velcro and slide back to unhook. Now if I have remembered all this correctly you are left holding the 2 panels joined by pesky 29, you can now see the useless fixing that Honda used and remove it. I tried JB weld on the stupid non-captive nut, that failed first time I undid it so I left the bolt out on both sides (yes I had to do this process twice on the right side and on the other side too). Go steady and check I am not talking gibberish cos my memory is okay but I may have missed a step. Possibly the 2 bolts on the radiator cowl but that may be unnecessary. Anyway its a job for a nice warm afternoon not -3 or raining. Apologies to the OP, I could not find Mr Hound original post about this challenge. 10

TBH i rode it only a handful of times before and found the usual lurching and rough running at low speed, dont really get that anymore with the plug. Alot of this was cured also with a Kaoko throttle stabliser which i cannot recommend enough. I went to the pyrenees this year on it and it run like a dream! |
