    Indicator Issue

    Hello folks, just thought I'd post this for anyone that ever experiences a similar problem.

    I recently developed a problem with my indicators continually blowing a fuse (labelled "Meter Backup" in the fuse box, 10A). This only happened whilst mobile, I couldn't get it to happen with the bike stationary (engine running or not), but would often blow within a mile of home when mobile.

    After cleaning the switch and stripping panels off (repeatedly) and many 10A fuses later, I eventually lifted the petrol tank to see if I could spot anything under there.

    This is what I found;

    A connector block underneath the left side of the tank had a wire that was clearly damaged, with the insulation worn through and bare wire showing. It would seem that this had been rubbing against the underside of the tank causing a short. The connector block was originally mounted horizontally to a tag on the air box. I have now coated the bare wire with liquid rubber (welly repair adhesive), slipped a length of old bicycle innertube over the connector block, and mounted it vertically using a cable tie. I have tried to upload pictures of before and after.

    Hope this proves useful to someone somwhere down the line ! :152:

    Bye for now.

    Crikey!
    That is a good find, I will save that to my memory bank for checking next time I am in there.
    Cheers :031:

    Hi Wack,
    Not surprised to see this one raise its head again!
    I was touring France 8 years ago and the bike just died on me ambling along a beautiful road east of Paris. It kept blowing the FI fuse and I could not get it to run again, I got the bike recovered to a Honda dealer and spent the next 3 hours with the mechanic swapping stuff off a brand new vfr1200 on the showroom floor, all to no avail. at one stage, when we had the tank hinged up, the fault disappeared and the bike ran, so after a search we noticed the connector you have shown to have a stripped wire. Taped it up and off I went.
    I dived back in again when I got home and noticed that the repeated fuse blowing had cracked the paint on the underside of the tank, so I repaired that and done a better insulating job than the quick job that was done at the dealer. Did'nt have an issue since.
    Thanks for the photo's, Ii am sure it will help someone else on here
