Are the F side stands direct replacements for the X side stands ?
Are they the same length or are the F shorter, and if so by how much ?
    TIA

Great stuff! My CT is hibernating. Can only hope for a similar experience in the not too distant future!

As an aside, who else uses the run (aka "kill") switch to turn their bikes on and off? I always have done. Recently, when having my other bike serviced,  I was told by a Honda main dealer to leave the switch in the on position and just turn the bike on and off with the ignition or switch, saves wear on the switch apparently, so may prevent problems in the future??

I have never used the run/kill switch to turn any bike off, ever.  I just put it in neutral and turn the key off.

Looking at the parts fiches, the side stands for the F and the X look completely different. The F sits quite a bit lower to the ground too, so I'd expect the stand to be shorter - I've no data on length though.

Thread re-rail: Dave - I didn't often use the kill switch to shut down the bike on previous bikes (and there were many) but for some reason I have got into the habit of using it on the CT. Maybe because it's easier than leaning down to reach the key!

Thanks, that's what I was hoping too, as read threads online that if you lower the rear with Links you can use the F side stand rather than cut the X side stand  :028:

First of all, the F side stand is approx 1.5" shorter than the one on the X. Also, the former is cast/forged, whereas the latter is fabricated from steel tube.

Regarding switching off the bike, whatever the dealer says, I doubt it will make any difference in the long term. However, using the kill switch means 2 operations as after doing that, you still have to turn off the ignition, so seems no point to me. Why not just use the ignition in the first place.

I would add that the 'kill switch' was introduced as an emergency measure. An easy way to quickly stop the engine as all bike have one that works in the same way and is in the same place. Ignition switches however can vary between manufacturers and even models and perhaps precious time might be lost trying to figure out how to turn off the engine. Hence the standardised kill switch.

So it was never intended to be used as THE way to turn the engine off. That's what the ignition switch is for. However, if you want to use 2 switches every time, I guess whatever floats your boat.  :008:
