Pannier locking mechanism (loose)

I had a minor 'off' recently and my left pannier was slightly damaged. I've had it repaired and resprayed at a body shop but I've noticed that the 'throw bolt' that locks into the passenger rail has excess slack in it. The lock still works fine and it locates OK it's just a bit loose (as if an internal spring is damaged). I can see that there seems to be a way of removing the mechanism via 4 x allen bolts inside the pannier itself but before I risk undoing it I wondered if anyone on this forum has any prior experience of working on the pannier locking system?
