hard to start and runs rough

    hi. i have a 2017 vfr1200x highlander.

i went to get my bike out the garage the other week and charge the battery up as it had gone low. not completely flat. it managed to turn bike over for a couple of seconds before it started clicking. so i thought while i had the car nearby that i would jump start it. i made a boo boo for a few seconds as i connected jump leads wrong way round on bike. was only for about 3 or 4 seconds. anyway, i swapped them around and then tried to start the bike. it all turns over but wont fire. put bike back in garage and took battery off to bring indoors and charge up. went out today and put charged battery on bike. still wouldn't start. i've noticed that i dont hear the fuel pump priming. i checked all the fuses and nothing is blown. main fuse is good too.

i then tried to start again and this time i flicked the engine kill switch on/off. bike spluttered for a bit and started but idled ok but would not rev properly. it would either rev and drop back to idle every couple of seconds or it would not rev at all. i left bike running till engine was up to temp. turned it off and it would not start again unless i flicked kill switch on/off.

bike was running well when put in garage 3 weeks earlier.

is there a relay somewhere for the fuel pump? hoping it;s something simple as changing this.

will have to check fuel pump when i have more time and see that it still works when fed directly from a battery.

    thanks
    scott

Here's how to remove the rear cowl and check the fuel pump relay:

Sorry I'm not able to offer more help!

Great to hear that you solved the problem, and at minimal cost.  :028:  I'm surprised that the bike would even attempt to start with that main fuse blown, though.

yeah me too. all turned over ok. just did not prime the fuel pump.
new fuse went in and started within about 2 turns of the engine. management loght still on and idle initially up and down but sure i read somewhere it has to relearn throttle?

anyway, lets hope that's it all good again..

just for info, have the same problem, motor runs when the tank was more than 2/3 ful. Problem was not just fuse (50A) but loose cable to it (bad connection in shoe, bad clamping) and cable was desintegrated inside abouth 5cm regarding owerheating!! They weere just dust...
