So 1200x has developed an odour of coolant when hot. No visible loss of water in expansion tank or and noticeable leaks . Just get the standard coolant smell when stopped in traffic or end of ride . Anyone had this before or aware of any weak points to check first ??

Is it definitely coolant? Just wondering if it's not actually losing any. Over filling the oil level can result in some getting drawn into the air box which can give a noticeable smell. Is the oil level ok?

Thanks B oil is just below upper , need to get filter changed anyway so will have a sniff while in there. Although my nose does say coolant . Probably easier with tank up to check hoses etc .. so frustrating as would rather see a visible leak than a smell of something ..

I have a 2016. My water pump had a slight leak that created the burnt coolant smell. Was replaced, no problems since.

Check the weep hole on your water pump, an occasional drip is normal, but I had to replace my water pump at 25k miles as the drip got worse. The leaking coolant ends up on the exhaust, so you get a strong smell from not very much coolant as it burns off. It also leaves a residue on the exhaust.

Does this occur during a ride in the rain?

During my last ride in the (heavy) rain something smelled a bit weird on the motorcycle.
There was even some "steam" coming from the engine (?) that fogged up the mirrors during a stop at the traffic light for example.

Thanks red , this is more than just steam as happens in the dry .and has that distinct smell of hot antifreeze . 👍🏼
