Well, it seems a CrossTour will be in Sturgis this year, as I am headed that way on Monday.

I have volunteered to help the effort of the Black Sheep Club.  They set up a shoe shine booth and give free boot shines.

Anyway, I just maintenanced the VFRX.  She is sporting some Rotella T5 Semi-Synthetic 10w30 through a Bosch Filter and some Royal Purple 75w90 in the Final Drive.  The Michelins have a lot of rubber still and I am loving these tires for highway use.

As an Iron Butt rider, the 600 mile ride to get there on Monday will be a piece of cake.  Will likely take a different route and wider loop on the way home.

I'll post a write-up of the ride with pics in days to come.

    ........

I ended up with exactly 1,300 miles on the odometer, upon pulling up to the house.  It was a very good time.  Amazing people watching!

On the way home, a good portion of a tank of gas, I was running 84mph on I25, where the speed limit is 80 mph.  I was also riding into a head-wind.....

So.....   I ran out of gas out in the middle of nowhere.

Thankfully I had my gas bag with me and that gallon of petro got my into Laramie, WY.

Smart, i have the Mosko Moto 35L back country panniers and always have 2 1L fuel bottles in one of the aux pox and in the other side a compressor with a tyre repair kit plus a startbooster.
On long trips i also take 2 inner tubes just in case the rim gets damaged or the hole is too big for a lace plug but small enough to hold an tube.

This might seem a stupid question but, how does the 'gas bag' work?
How big is it when filled?

Looks like a good idea but not sure whether we would be allowed to use one in the UK.

EDIT - It was a daft question!!!
Just had a look on the web site, very neat.
I like the flexibility but looks a little pricey.

John, I used to live in the Springs & Monument, and my daughter is a UWyo grad.  So I know that when you say "the middle of nowhere" in Wyoming, you're not kidding!  I've had a few times here in FL where the fuel level begins to make me nervous, but it's a much different situation.  Regardless, I think I'll look into that Gas Bag - hadn't seen one of those before.  Thanks!
