    Recommended service place Wakefield/Barnsley?

Can anyone recommend a good independent bike garage in/around Wakefield/Barnsley kind of area to carry out a service and fit me a couple of tyres?

I’ve decided I’m not paying mains dealer’s (Castle Honda’s) inflated prices again! And the bike’s just out of warranty, so don’t feel obliged to go there anyway.

I used to use National tyres in Barnsley a while ago, but not sure if they still do them for bikes. I now either use The Pit Stop in Mirfield or go to the place in Scholes (near Leeds) who seem to know what they are doing, they have quite a big turnaround. Cant advise on the servicing side as I do my own. They are easy enough to diy, if you fancy a go I have a workshop manual and am happy to give you a hand if you need one, I'm in the WF4 postcode.

    Thank you for your reply.

I’ve heard good things about the place in scholes actually, so I might give them a bell. A few bikers I know use them. I was in Garforth yesterday actually and was considering just calling in.

My 2018 dct is just coming up to the 16k mark, and the recommended expensive service with the valve clearance checks etc. I do the brake pads and oil/filters etc but after that I’m a bit cautious.

What do you reckon about the 16k service seeing as it’s out of warranty? Go the whole hog and have it done, or just do the engine and drive shaft oil and filters and hope for the best?

Hemsworth here by the way :-)

Black 18 plate with the led front spots. White helmet. I’m out and about on it daily as I use it for work as long as it’s not banging it down.

Yes valves is the biggie not that I've ever done them on the Vfr before. If anything it would be the exhausts that may be a bit tight and I believe they're lock nut adjustable hence the cams dont have to come out. It's the sort of thing I'd take a deep breath and have a go a at over a day or two. I'm sure someone else will be along to share their experience as to whether adjustment is likely at that mileage Once they've been set a lot of modern Jap bikes rarely seem to need doing again for a long time. I guess its the old thing of how long you want to keep it for and what sort of preventative maintenance you want to cover. Hopefully someone may suggest a trusted independent you could use. Maybe you could tackle all the other easier bits and get someone to sort the valves?

These guys in Ossett seem to get decent reviews, not tried them myself but may be worth considering? https://notyouraveragebikes.com/

Yea, I’ve been to this place last year; I took one of the Zero electric bikes out for a test ride, and the owner and the mechanic who I spoke to did both seem like decent guys actually.

I think I will do the oils and filters myself and not bother with the valve clearances. And for tyres, I will give the place in scholes a buzz this week.

oil /filter/ brakes/coolant/brake fluid/ air filter/ all done by myself, and i`m a builder lol,
in all my previous bike i have never paid to get the valves done , after the bikes get to around 60k i chop em in for newer models. 4 bikes = 3 valve checks each = £700 ish x 4 = £2800 , but each to there own.
