Fuel Gauge sometimes flashing even with tank full

This is something I get from time to time. Whenever I power on the ignition (before I start the engine) I get a flashing fuel gauge indifferent of how much fuel it has.
I couldn't find any pattern as of when it's happening and why.
Sometimes turning it on and off a couple of times will eventually fix the issue, and I would get a working fuel indicator. On other occasions I would just leave with it like that and it will keep flashing until next time I start the bike again.
I've read on another Honda forum (I can't find the link now) that this can happen because of the signal sent by the fuel level sensor. In case the dash is getting an invalid reading it will go in some sort of error mode and just flash. So it could be an intermittent error from the sensor, but it's around 80Euros and adding 35 for the Packing it would be a pretty expensive test so I'm looking for your advice. I will probably buy anyway, but maybe there are ways to diagnose the fault.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Thanks

I have not seen (or recall reading about) that specific issue, although there have been some fuel gauge issues discussed.
Mine hangs too long at showing three bars, then suddenly starts flashing one bar with the mileage countdown. I watch mileage more than the gauge, so it hasn't bothered me much. Some others here have also noted a similar issue.

I also get that one, it's still predictable and you always have the mileage to know when you are close to empty.
In my case, it's nothing I can't live with, but nonetheless very annoying to have that flashing thing on my dash all the time.

Another thing that affects the true readout of the gauge is, if the tank is empty and you don't fill it up to max, ( for example you put €20 euro in ) the gauge will show full when you switch on and continue to do so for the first approx 60klms and then drop to 2 bars and then quickly to flashing one bar. It can be annoying if you are far from fuel stations.
As you say , it is always better to use the trip meter for tank range.

Never had a bike yet with an accurate fuel gauge.

Thanks Tom, that's something to keep in mind. Noroc!

I agree Mick, not sure why is that still happening (same thing with speedometers). I started on sport bikes, so even having a low level light was a luxury. In the meantime, the fuel gauge on my VFR800 was pretty much working properly with the only disadvantage that not all the lines were dropping at the same rate.
Nonetheless, my problem with the CT is not really with the accuracy of the the fuel gauge, but the fact that it's getting some sort of an error and it's flashing even when the tank is full. Annoying because I keep seeing that when looking at the dash and it's only fixable by powering on and off the bike a couple of times.
