greetings from wales
« on: December 31, 2011, 04:10:53 PM »
Hello everybody,
I'm Steve from Llanelli in wales, currently ride 2 CB1300's, a black one and a red and white one, both naked. I'm looking to part ex both for the crosstourer when it arrives on the shores. I nearly bought a BMW adventure a couple of years ago but then heard a little rumour about some adventure bike from Honda, so glad I waited !!!!
Big question now is to go DCT or not !

Hi Steve  :400:

DCT ... for me not a big question anymore ..... I think it's a great feature!
Around the world and back ... driven Honda motorbikes all over Europe, Australia, NewZealand, Japan, Russia .....

yes, no doubt that DCT is great but I've never ridden an auto bike before !!!
I'm too big to jump on a VFR to try out the DCT :138: I will have to, at the least, have a sit on a crosstourer before I can think about ordering one as I've got a knackered back  :232: but going by the dimensions of the crosstourer, I should be ok. :028: comparing to my CB's.

Hello Steve and  :400: from Australia,
RE DCT my view is that it really depends on the type of riding you intend to do.
I like you was about to purchase a GS1200 Adventure, even did the 2 day BMW off road riding course with BMW to see how they handled, but I am a die hard Honda rider so really did not want to buy a BMW so am very excited about the crosstourer.
Back to DCT - if your plans are to tour and use on tar and medium grade dirt roads then I would try the DCT as I think it is a most interesting option, however, if you plan to do adventure touring and go off road, down tracks and explore the paths less managed then from a riders control perspective you will need to have clutch control which is essential for tricky places, so for me I will not be going with the DCT option.
Kind regards ... Jacob

Not really planning in going off road, even if I had the adventure ! just scared of the unknown I suppose. I should trust Mr Honda's DCT and just go ahead and get it. we'll see !!!!
