The saga continues.Maxton just rang and said the chrome on my forks looks like "the bike has had 10 years off road use" with badly chipped surfaces. The solution is for re-chroming ( 4 weeks ) or new fork lower sections. Apparently not easy to get,Fowlers out of stock .
Anyone suggest a supplier who would be able to supply a pair ?

So I have checked the service and it seems like my bike has 7 weeks warranty left.So a friend Honda dealer is putting in a claim.I am not to hopeful but maybe YOU know better.
It seems that hard chroming these is a better bet -and half the price -of new sliders from Honda.Have any of you had sucessful claims against Honda -I did 7 years ago with mis sped'd tyres on my NC750- got 2 new out of Honda FOC.

Wow, that is bad for a bike of that age. When I took my forks to Maxton, they spotted the same issue, but nowhere near as bad as yours. All my damage was below the range of the seals anyway, so wouldn't damage them. My bike is is a 2012, with 25k miles on it, so some chips are to be expected, but yours should be in far better nick. I'd say you have a chance of a successful warranty claim given age & mileage.

There are a pair of forks on eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274633635628?hash=item3ff170b72c:g:C6AAAOSwaERf746S . They look OK in the photos, but you'd need to examine them in the flesh to be certain they're OK.

thanks for that.Honda are considering my claim, submitted by Justin of Colwyn Bay Honda ( nice folk)
. I am advised that if Honda dont play, that rechroming is the best option as a harder finish than the factory do .
Once sorted I wonder is gaiters or the little shields are a good idea.i wont be going off road (not a Hero) but reckon that seals seem a bit vunerable and despite all the claims none last forever-so some protection on the sliders seems like a good idea.

Yes, Richard(?) at Maxton said some of the desert racers use shields mounted inboard of the forks to protect them, but I didn't look into it further.
