stuck seat -cable not opening the latch-ideas?

Morning all, anyone have any clever ideas on getting the seat off my '18 bike. The cable operated catch isnt releasing -so I need to get the seat off and then adjust it. Ideally without damage!

Already tried pushing hard on the back of the seat while turning the key?

Yes. I know how it works -just accessing it is the problem.I suppose the there has to be a cable adjuster there somewhere but havent started thinking about that yet!

Sadly not going to help you at the mo but Bazza but in the early days of the CT there was an issue with the screws on the seat lock mechanism being loose. This may well be what has caused the issue.

Have a look here mate, good luck.

Its a fiddly job but you can get the seat to release using a long thinnish screwdriver from the back of the seat to pop the seat lock where the cable joins at the seat u bolt.
The problem is that the 10mm bolt that holds the release echanism has come loose and the cable now does not have enough throw to release the u bolt.
Once the seat is off (its a bugger!) them apply thread locking liquid to the bolt and tighten up again.

Been there, done that one 👍

thanks for that  I have failed miserably!

i can wedge up the seat at the back and can even see the cable end where it exits the right side of the bracket -and on operating the key it moves freely but isnt actuating the lever release bar. So i got a piece of 10mm hollow  steel tube and hacksawed a slot in the end -and slid that down between the barrel nipple and the stop to give the cable more pull. That didnt work.

i have gone from the front -i can raise the seat about 60o from horizontal -but the catch is behind everything and so no access to it from that direction -or either side as the same problem of access is to the hex headed screws that hold the side covers on ( the ones that the panniers lock into)

I may just have to chop off the big block that the U bracket must bolt to at the back -but assume thats where the bracket attached to. At least its all underneath the seat so no doubt can be botched back without a problem, eventually

Will try the wire coat hanger now to see if I can get to the lever that way from back of the seat
at least its not stopping me riding-no front wheel or forks fitted at present!

    baz

Don’t cut the ubolt. You can do this!!

There is a sliding bolt that the cable is attached to, you should be able to get a screwdriver to it and push it open. If that is too difficult then the cable which operates the sliding bolt has a metal bracket that it runs through which also slides and be more accessible so get your screwdriver and push on that bracket until the sliding bolt unlocks the U bolt…job done👍 It is fiddly but you don’t ned to cut anything.
I have attached a couple of pictures of the mechanism in the Gallery under George…seat mechanism.
The screwdriver shows the bracket referred to, the sliding bolt is visible too.

    Good luck 👍👍

thanks for the photos George. can't see any sliding anything!
By prising the rear of the seat I have inserted some wood about 40mm square to hold it open and can see the end of the cable, the nipple and a small section of the U bracket with a bit of the mechanism underneath it.I have tried putting a spacer between nipple and end block but that hasnt helped to increase the cable "pull" ,.I can't  see and sliding nuts sorry .I can get the seat almost vertical but the clamp is still not accessible.
anyone got a tatty seat I cabn buy as i can see where this is going!
