I’m based in Plymouth, UK. I’ve just moved into the CT world after many years piloting the various Teutonic behemoth GS in its several guises. Had loads of hondas over the years and it’s been a bit of a love hate relationship with them. Totally reliable excellent build quality but a bit sterile. The early GS offered a welcome change and character. However, with every iteration, the GS has got more ‘fragile’ and expensive; simply not worth the money. Looking forward to getting to know my fellow inmates, let the farkling begin!

    Welcome .  :400:

I came to the same conclusion as you after my 2011 GS needed a starter motor and an alternator in under 50,000 miles. I was lucky it was non ABS as all 3 of my BMW riding mates had  their ABS pumps go.  My previous 1100 and 1150 needed nothing more than routine maintenance.  So in late 2015 I bought my 2014 CT . With the lovely engine , exhaust note ( Leo Vince ) and the auto blipper it sound great and not sterile in my opinion. So far in almost 33k miles it’s blown a headlamp bulb and a sidelight. I’d be looking at changing about now but I’m going to keep her for another couple of years.

    Enjoy!

    Hi Rusty
Read your ‘catastrophic failure’ post on UKGSer and that certainly got me on to looking at a CT.
You’re right re sterile, there is something slightly off beat with the engine that adds character. I’m looking at a slip on and the Leo Vince looks good as does the Arrow. And the farkles in general seem to be cheaper than those for the GS.

Welcome Rusty, I'm just up the road in Torbay, almost 2 years on my CT now.. Had an 1150gs back in 03, kept it 5 years and 50k miles but vowed never to buy BMW again after successive failures in the dealers screwing up the bike servicing it. So far the CT has been bomb proof.

Stuck 100k miles on my 07 GS in 5 years and any issues were minor and dealt with the minimum of fuss via the extended warranty at CWs in Dorchester. Sadly this was not the case with my local dealer here in Plymouth. The 2016 LC was new and it would be fair to say that I never really bonded with it and it just felt like something was about to break or snap off. Indeed, I brushed past the rear LED indicator and in did snap off; so much for the ultimate riding machine.

You know! Saying that, when my mates son was working on the desk, he made sure I was well looked after. But he left and it went back to its usual standards
