    uk members-brexit and import taxes

    I am modding my 2018 DCT and want some goodies made outside GB (or is it Uk never have worked why we have 2 names for our little island place)
    Having read about buyers getting hit by import tax and handling charges I asked two suppliers for the REAL cost of items advertised -with those costs listed.
    I was informed that the fleabay price was the REAL price so reckon that the firms in question have costed in these extras -applicable since Jan 1st.
    But just to warn you UK members to check if wanting something pricy. If buying from the USA it's normal to pay import  tax -I got hit for over £100 on an Aerostich suit many years ago - pay up or no delivery said the Post Office .But you may not realise it now applies to EU goods coming in to UK-even if a UK seller.

    I think that GB refers to England, Scotland and Wales where as UK includes Northern Ireland as in;

    The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

    You need to look at the postage, when buying from America it very often says, taxes maybe payable.

    New rules apply from January 1st. Quite happy that ordered my bash plate at the beginning of November and got it well before Brexit.
    With carriers handling fees and government taxes buying abroad is too expensive now.

    Moved this topic as it was in the "Suspension" board  :164:

    BTW - my understanding is that since Jan 1st customs duties on goods from the EU are only due if they are valued at over £390, so most things should be ok.  :002:

    Ct you may be right -but that women who ordered a £200 coat had an £80 extra charge.All i am saying is check before buying something if money is tight- a uk seller might not have stock and get it  delivered direct from EU to you. Its all up in the air at present .

    thanks Fastvan61
    read it all and mainly it's still tricky to get a specific answer -very much depends on the supplier ,I bought a £150 item yesterday from a well known supplier and have it in email "writing"  that the uk shown price won't sneak up!
    But a quick email confirmation is worth getting before buying.Note that the £ is going up against the €  but prices don't seem to come down!
