The end of a wonderful friendship
    on: Nov 17, 2020, 07.15 pm
    Nov 17, 2020, 07.15 pm
A day of mixed emotions today as I took delivery of my Africa Twin DCT while at the same time said goodbye to the wonderful Crosstourer.
The decision to change came a little sooner than originally anticipated, but when the opportunity to purchase an ex demo AT with only 640 miles on the clock for over £3500 less than new it was too good an opportunity to miss.
Once the paperwork was done I took advantage of the weather and went on a 150 mile shakedown ride which proved that, while different, the AT is going to be a brilliant long distance tourer. It’s responsive, quick and the DCT is in a different league, along with the 3 sport settings.
About the only things I’m not too keen on are the tubed tyres and having to look after a chain after over 15 years of shafts. But at some point in the future I’ll perhaps replace the wheels, or get them taped and  I’ll fit a chain oiler.
But initial impressions are extremely favourable.
Highlights of my CT ownership - my Picos and Pyrenees trip and of course the “World Crosstourer” meeting in Oswestry, a great weekend.
Despite the fact that the CT has departed I’ll still keep dipping into the forum at times, but in the meantime I’d just like to say a big thanks to you all, especially those fellow CT riders I’ve met over the last 7 years of CT ownership and here’s to many more happy miles.

Looks great Dave and a very good deal too. Know youve been eyeing up the AT for some time Dave so glad for you that the opportunity came along to scratch that itch. Be very interested how you get on with it long term. I must admit i really quite like the look of the Adventure Sport.

Congratulations Dave!  Thank you for all of the contributions you've made to the community here.  I personally appreciate the help you have given me from time to time.   I do hope that you'll continue to chime in when you're not out enjoying the new bike!   Nothing but the best as you move ahead.

Cheers Paul. Must be honest my first choice would have been the Adventure Sport but I’m afraid budget and the slightly heavier weight played a major part in choosing the AT.
I’ll certainly let you know how I get on with it over the long term mate.
    Stay safe buddy.  :028:
