Rear Pre Load Adjuster
on: June 25, 2020, 05:30:55 PM
Pre load adjuster has always been stiff but recently has become impossible to move. What I should have done is drilled a hole in the end and squirted WD in but I wanted to do a proper job so wrestled the knob off.
You can see what the outcome of that was in the pic.
With a bit of grease the bolt winds in and out fine and the pre load ring moves okay but the bolt head fouls the remains of the plastic from the sheared knob.
If I can get a replacement knob I may be able to dremmel out the plastic remains in the housing.

Does anybody have a pre load unit they want to sell? preferably with a non seized knob?
Or failing that a complete spring-damper-pre load assembly so I can get it re-built before fitting?

I just have had the full suspension replaced under warranty because of that
If your bike is less than 3 years old you should be able to ask for it

Thanks for the reply, mine is well out of warranty (2013) and doing some more digging the plastic has sheared so its either; try a VFR1200 F remote adjuster or attack the remains with a drill/Dremmel then see what is left.

would it help to operate the pre load knob from time to time to stop this happening ?? (because it seems to be a common problem?)

I have just sold my 2013 CT and had a nitron rear unit installed. As a result I have a low mileage unit sat on the shelf about to go into the items for sale thread.
I will need to double check all is good, but it was when I took it off.
Let me know if you are interested.

Temporary fix !!
Drilled the adjuster knob.
Drilled the adjuster bolt head and tapped a M6 thread in it, popped a spacer in the cavity in the knob and bolted the plastic knob to the bolt head.
Its not perfect because to achieve the full adjustment range the fixing bolt need slackening off a little but until I get a replacement it will do.
