    Drive line noise

Hi guys , just been reading up on the drive shaft recall , had my bike running in gear on its centre st and and it has got an awful metallic clanking which does sound like it coming out of the swing arm , my bike was registered on the 4/11/2016 and has only done 4.5k miles ,by rights it should of had the improved shaft when it was built , has anyone else had a later model with a shaft failure .
I,m going to ask at my local honda dealer if he can give me a manufacturing date from the chassis number just to double check when it was made .
    Thanks Allan

Registration date and model year are two different things.
Sometimes a bike stays a showroom model for years without with only a registration into the stock of the dealership.
I don't trust dealers and wouldn't be surprised if they forgot to put the gear oil in the final drive.

    Dont worry 2pac,
Normal sound when it's on the centre stand, lots of lash with no load on it.
Just ride and service as due. You can check easy if there is oil in the differential if it calms your nerves. But be very careful with the fill bung, it is made of chocolate and lots of gents on here have sheared it.

Thanks for the replies . Diff oil is spotless . When I ran it in second  gear I put a little pressure on the back brake to hopefully eliminate backlash noise and you could visibly see the Back wheel sort of jerking as it spun , seen cv joints on cars snagging and making the drive line clicking and jerking but that,s usually when the cv joints on full lock .
Anyone around Nottingham that could meet up with just to do a comparison in drive line noise cos I,m quite nervous about riding it any good distance now !
Bought this to do a 14 day European tour on as well 😢
    Thanks Allan

The backlash is not likely to be in the driveshaft, it's in the final shaft across the back of engine before it gets to the gearbox - there's a forked dog arrangement there that I think is spring loaded.

A massive thankyou to noddy for letting me pop over to do a comparison , looks like what i,m hearing is perfectly normal on a crosstourer , he even let me try his bike to be 100 percent sure , it was the backlash that sounds so bad when you have it running in gear on the main stand !  it has certainly put my mind at rest so thank you again John your a gent  :020:
