My previous ride was a 2010 ducati multistrada with the olhins suspension, which was by all accounts from anyone who ever rode it the best suspension they've ever ridden on. Myself included there. The stock stuff on my 2016 VFR was completely unacceptable with the bike feeling absolutely out of control after hitting potholes, and the wife simply forbidding us to ride on certain roads. Over the winter I looked around and decided that the best bet was this suspension combo, which I had installed along with the mccruise slim cruise control and some rox barbacks with some cable rerouting while the shop had everything apart.

It's an entirely new bike now. I really hunted for spring frost heaved and potholed roads and nothing was up to the task of disturbing the ride. I don't know if it's as good as the multistrada was but I would have to go back and ride the multi again to say for sure, and to be able to get this bike within that margin for that money is a pretty good deal in my opinion. I'd highly recommend this setup, and all roads are now approved by the wife after the spring test ride.

Yeah I called them directly and confirmed they do offer it, but it's not on the website. They took my CC and had it out the door and on my porch inside of a week or so I think?

From when I was looking into it.

Hi Mike,

We have sold quite a few AK20s for the VFR1200X this year. The AK20s were developed for racing, but we have been installing them in sport touring bikes for years. They have excellent bump absorption qualities, so they are a nice fit on sport touring bikes, and in fact, we have been installing them in Wings daily for over 15 years.  The AK20s are $1099.95 for the VFRX. They are a fairly easy installation if you can replace fork seals, or you may send the forks in and we can service the forks and install the AK20s for $250 plus seals and bushings as needed.

We build each kit custom to order, so they are sprung and valved for you weight and riding style, and have an excellent adjustment range as well.

The Penske 8983 series shock is a great fit for a sport touring bike:

(those links are for the VFR1200 not X, but the same concepts apply)

Our part numbers are AK20-VFR1200x

I attached a review from a similar style bike, and I’m sure there’s some guys talking about us on the forums.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Dan
