In the U.K. the CT attracted unfavourable press reports, which when you see the advertising budgets of both BMW and KTM that hardly comes as any surprise and this is despite the well documented reliability issues with both BMW and KTM.
To be fare though the CT was never going to compete on the “electronic gizmo” front and it does suffer weight and budget suspension issues.
I also feel that Honda should take some responsibility when initially marketing the CT as an “Adventure” bike when it should have gone down the touring route.
We also have to take into effect the huge amount of resources Honda put into the Africa Twin at the detriment of the CT.
It’s obvious that those who are lucky enough to own a CT tend to love them and we in the U.K. did attempt to put across too Honda a couple of years ago when we organised a (tongue in cheek) World Crosstourer meeting which Honda sent a film unit to record the event (see link below), but all seemed to fall on deaf ears, had a great weekend though.
