    Engine surging while cruising

Out today in the 55 degree weather for a 150 mile ride, about 50 miles into the ride the motorcycle starts to stall/cut out and back again while under throttle and very hard to maintain the proper idol.  At first I thought this is what people are complaining about the sensitive throttle.  I pulled over, let it cool off for 20minutes or so and back on the road, same issues but I was trying to learn how to ride it as I was at least 100miles from home at 4:00pm est.  Limped it back to town stop at least three times to let it rest and then back at it.  Heavy clutch work, power braking and keep the revs up was a chore.  Any ideas on what the issue(s) are?  Full tank of fuel- 93 octane always.  2016 black manual with 6900 miles on the clock.  Never a hiccup in the past

I apologize, I hit post too quick/no proof reading- obviously I was 50 miles from home if I was 50 miles into a 150 mile ride.  No more rum and Dr. Pepper before keyboarding

The first thought is the throttle positioning sensor (or whatever it is referred to on this bike).  https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/37971-MGE-672?ref=9d04d6cf5454ddad0d79ec5d0c8e9f9ba4bc2ac7

Is the check engine light on ????

A throttle position error or problem with the “drive by wire” throttle would almost always cause a check engine light ( aka CEL, MIL ) .  The throttle by wire is responsible for idle speed.  Sounds like off idle your still low on power maybe not all cylinders firing ??

Sounds like one cylinder might be in misfire or dropping out.  1200x does not have misfire detection so a problem with fuel or spark might not cause a check engine light.
Vacuum leak, pinched fuel line, bad fuel are also possible.

Touching each exhaust ( cautiously) after its running looking for a cold header pipe would  indicate which cylinder is malfunctioning.

Any recent work done ?   Modification, service work,  accessory install etc......where a wire or connector could have gotten pinched or left lose or not completely plugged in.  Especially a plug wire or injector connection.

Thank you for your comments.  No recent work or any mods made to the stock set up. Only one set of new tires and the first oil change & rear shaft drive lube completed when recommended.  This was totally out of the blue, no warning or anything.

No coke, we had Dr. Pepper

( Forgot to mention) One DIY check:

Battery condition ( charged, able to hold a charge) and battery terminal check ( clean and tighten) modern bikes do not like inconsistent voltage supply and the symptoms vary widely and can be intermittent.
