    Broken mounting ear

So a couple of weeks ago I had a low speed tip over I caught the front wheel in some silt. I am talking 3 mph. During this I broke my right leg so I am laid up for a bit but healing up nicely. As part of this I originally thought there was no damage to the bike but with nothing to do I was doing some work on the bike and found that on the right side lower cowl was flopping around. I took it off and found that the little ear on the clutch cover was snapped off. There is a steel bracket that mounts to this ear and the cowl mounts to the bracket.

I am sure I am not the only one this has happened too so the question goes out to you folks "Is there an aftermarket bracket that mounts to the clutch cover bolts instead of that stupid little ear?" My guess is that this ear is a carry over from the F model and Honda didn't want to change it.

I have used JB weld as the fix for now but I don't expect much longevity from it. A new cover will be around $250 with the same design flaw.

Attached a a couple of pictures And the back mount is bolted to the cover using one of the cover bolts. Shoudn't the front be a similar design?

I had the same thing happen to me (I have a post here someplace on it).  JB weld did not hold.  I went to high-quality straight epoxy and has held ever since.  Funny, when it happened to me I thought "What are the stinking odds?"  Happened to me at stop day two of owning this bike when unused the weight displacement.  I would not belive there would be an aftermarket mounting bracket. But, if you still have the ear it can be welded back on if the cast aluminum is the type that allows for welds. Consensus opinion from the group here in response to my post was to replace it.

I used the JB weld steel that is good to 600 degrees. I have used it in the past on metal and plastic with good results. I am sure this will hold until the next time I change oil and forget that I repaired it or if I have another tip over.

For general wear and tear I am sure it will be fine.

We just recently sold everything we own and went to full time RVing hauling the bikes with us. If I still had a home with tools I would just make a new bracket that utilizes the bolts on the clutch cover and be done with it.
