    Rear Pre Load knob

    Hi all

Seen some threads about rear pre load knob seizing etc.

Can I ask should I be able to hear and feel "clicks" when turning the pre load know. I can turn the knob relatively easily but I get no clicks. It just rotates round. (2017 CT)

    Cheers

You should hear a click but it can be difficult to notice with other noise around.

Thanks, definitely no clicking to be heard at all. Tried late at night in the garage in silence!!!

as the last reply says you should hear a click for each full turn, dont know if you have had the bike from new but a possible reason for no click may be this, mine was a getting little stiff so I took off the knob and greased the thread inside and now I just turn it fully in and out once a year( 5 1/2 years old now and working fine) but the click is made with spring loaded ball bearing dropping into a small recess, it does nothing else only make the clicking sound so I did not bother replacing mine( just made a small mark with a drill bit to show when I have made a full turn) perhaps similar may have happened to yours

When I took mine apart, the recesses that the ballbearings click into were full of corrosion, so they didn't click. Then when I cleaned it up and put it back together I couldn't get the ballbearings to sit in place, so it continued to not click. So could be either of these two reasons! Either way it doesn't matter if the adjuster is working.

Someone's already had the knob off and lost the litle ball bearing

It's only held in place by a very small spring

    I know - I lost mine!

It doesn't affect the operation - just count the number of 180degree turns from full on or off

My Pan has 36 x 180 turns so I just keep count when riding solo or pillion and luggage

    HTH

Had it from new and never had the knob off (oh er missus!).

Thanks for the replies. Seems to suggest all's working despite no clicks. I guess I'll not worry and just count the turns I make when I wind it on carrying a pillion.
