    RAM Mounts X-Grip

Did you ever wonder what was under the RAM logo of your X-Grip?   :084:

My small X-Grip started to separate so I made a warranty claim and expected to send it in.  They didn't want the broken item back so I decided to open it up to see the issue.

X-grip top assembly is separating from the lower assembly.  Note the gap in the plastic.

The "RAM Mounts" is a vinyl sticker over top of the hardware.

Three of the four screws were "detached".  Two of them pulled out of the upper assembly and the other two snapped at the base of their shaft. (One of them, I admit, was still functioning when I started prodding with a screwdriver ...so three had failed.     :164:   )

The only item not shown is the spring.  It was greased and I left it on the bench so you'll have to open your own up to see it.   :007:

So now you know what's under this particular hood... :305:

Thanks for sharing this.  I switched to Rokform and never looked back. One case, mount on the motorcycle, then another mount for the bicycle.  Rock solid mount and i think it has nearly a five star rating on both Amazon and the manufacturer site...don't hold me to that.

If you are a cyclist I can see streamlining the mounts.  I'd have to see it in person and as I'm not a cyclist there's no real incentive...

I like the second attachment of the rubber straps on the X-Grip.  Even with the damage my phone was secure.  Does the Rockform have anything similar?

Yes.  Four locking tabs on the case and mount, tether, and a magnet.

Also, very nice guys. I don't have any additional room on my handlebars anymore for my Rockform phone mount so I went by their shop the other day to see what else they had I could rig up. One of the owners came out to look at my bike and ended up giving me this. It has some cosmetic damage so he couldn't sell it. Worked out perfectly :-)

I've been looking at the Rockform phone mount but I find them a bit expensive. Let us know if its worth buying.

I would recommend it.  Amazon has a 10.00 off coupon on their American site today.  Amazon Prime Day starts on July 15th and they may be discounted further during those two days.  It is rock solid, fully articulable, and a relatively small mount compared to the competition.  The magnet that is supplied with the case is sufficient to hold the phone in place, believe it or not.  I guess a drawback is that in order to use the mount, you have to purchase a phone specific case.  For me, not an issue.  I have a Note 9 phone.  With the magnet installed in the case, I cannot use wireless charging.  If I remove the magnet, it's fine.  But I generally transfer the phone from the Rokform case to another case while not on either my motorcycle or my bicycle.  Reviews are pretty solid on this system and have thousands of entries if that matters.

Thanks for the feed back . I have a Huawei phone, so I'm not sure how popular it is. I was also looking  at https://www.quadlockcase.ca.  Right now I just bought a new Tomtom 550 GPS. But I also like to use my google maps on my phone.
    Thanks.
