Tyre time for me, considering Road 5s

Anyone got decent miles on a set? How do they compare to previous tyres you’ve had for wear.

I’m running Anakee 3s at the mo.

Much better than the Pilot Road 4 in my opinion. I really feel a huge difference in curves. Much easier to handle. No idea yet about the mileage. The Pilot Road 4 lasted max 8000 on my bike.

Also looking at Road 5’s next time so would also be interested in mileage.  :028:

On my 2nd set. Just fitted.

A step up in grip and feel from anakee3’s and could tell no difference from Dunlop roadsmart 3’s.

5k out a rear. Probably half that 2up touring the rest hooning. Even wear.

Can’t say for wet grip cos rain stops play for me... so I don’t push it.

Out for interest Andy, what did you used to see out of your Anakees? I’ve got about 9k on mine I think.  If you got similar out of them then I’d expect same on the 5s.

Hartley, the same. 5k out the (many) rear anakees. And which I was perfectly happy with.

To me the Dunlop RS3”s and Michelin 5’s feel like proper sports tyres from years ago. Loads of feel and grip so I of course expected rotten mileage. Not so. Tyre tech has moved on to give us that sports tyre feel and the old sport touring tyre mileage. Specifically hammering the front brakes and side grip out of corners.

    Lovely. No brainer.

Ive got a 5 on the rear only at the moment. Have probably only done 1000 miles on it but it feels good. Obviously time will tell but Id like to think itll resist squaring off a bit better as the central part of the tyre is almost a solid band of rubber with the sipes starting off centre.

I assume for everyone engaged in this dialog here that we are talking about The Road 5 'Trail' tires since Michelin does not make the standard Road 5 in a 19" front hoop size to accommodate our front wheel on the CT.

Or...are some/all of you running a Road 5 out back and the trail version on the front?  Here in the States I met with strong opposition from other riders suggesting that the two could be fitted together on the same bike w/o problem.  Some even claiming to quote Michelin that it is "dangerous" to mix the two.   :087:
