Brakes binding after parking.
« on: March 20, 2019, 06:04:09 PM »
Evening/morning all,
I've noticed my brakes are binding following being put away wet, after riding. I only notice this when pushing it around, seems fine after riding and putting the bike to bed. Just when left a few days, that's when the brakes/pads drag.  3 year old 1200x, pads 25% worn and not sure if they are standard Honda or high metal sintered jobs.

Anyone else had this effect ?

Rob.

Thats quite normal for any vehicle with discs and pads when put away wet

It should just be pads and disc sticking and not the pistons seizing

Tip......ride home and apply the breaks to heat up and onto the garage, and shout disperse the moisture

Cheers Maverick
Good idea and that does make sense . I'm off to southern Ireland in two weeks, unless Brexit causes problems. Hence my concerns over brakes.

Longdude, whereabouts in Ireland are you off to.

BTW I always dry my bike with a pet dryer after riding it in the rain to stop things like binding etc.

I'll look into the dryer option. Cheers

Heading from Holyhead to Dublin, then north to Strangford, County Down. My bro has lived there 30 years. It's a great ride for me. Boring motorway on the way up (faster after working for the day), overnight stop in Colwyn Bay and ferry early next day. Then back home through Snowdonia national park and then the Wye valley to Chepstow. On to Devon after that.

First long ride on my relatively  new to me, CT DCT. Can't wait.  :305:
