    Deep Fairing Scratch

    hi all
i bought my bike second hand sight unseen, and halfway home i notice an ugly scratch on the left fairing(not reported by the seller)
the ugly scratch is into the plastic eg through the clear and colour :005:

    options are.....replace fairing AUD$550
repaint lower half of fairing  AUD$?
try to fix it myself with help from youtube

so i took option 3...try to fix myself :159:
i can spraypaint but have never tried scratch removal(never needed to) :002:

    clean the panel(prepsolve)
block rub wet and dry 2000 grit the scratch(makes area flat not gloss)
spray can the paint onto a plastic bag then use artist brush to paint the scratch
block rub again 2000 grit wet and dry
then hand compound (took 3 goes)fine cutting compound to restore flat area

it was a really hot day..around 30 degC or 86 deg F  so the whole process took around 30 mins
here is the result....i can still see the scratch as the paint colour i couldnt match(couldnt find code under seat for the black, only the silver),but i can now live with it :047: :047: :047:
the good news was that i was able to remove the honda decal without damage and then replace it :150:
