Thinking of a bimble east from Calais area to Prague and back

Any places of special interest on the way or there and places to park up for the night

    Cheers

I lived in Bavaria for a while and a little known jaunt was B22 vicinity Bamberg, great ride. I'm sure there is better but that immediately jumped to mind when thinking about mid-Europe.  I don't know if it's on your way or not, but worth a look if it is. From Bamberg trace west on A70.  B22 exits south and runs to Bayreuth.

One correction, you go east from Bamberg on A70 to pick up B22...

    Hi Maverick,
Ive just put a direct route from Calais to Prague into Google maps to get an idea of a route. Got a couple of suggestions for you. Slightly north of the direct route are the Harz Mountains. Ive been a couple of times, nice area, very good quiet roads and a fair bit to see. Heres a post i did about our first trip:

Another place which i think would be a must and i cannot recommend highly enough is a visit to Colditz, its about 20 miles ish south east of Leipzig.  When i was looking into visiting there a lot of people told me not to bother as there was nothing to see. Im guessing theyve put a lot of effort in the last few years because all of the group i was with thought it was brilliant. They do organised tours telling about the history and the escape attempts. If you do go i urge you to pay a little more for the extended tour, it really is worth it.

Heres a post about the second trip:

Hope some of this is of use to you.

    Thanks Hartley

    Two very good suggestions.

Never really go direct and always worth knowing what off the normal route to make the journey that bit extra

Looking like 3 days from the tunnel to Prague, to see more of the sights really. 2 days sees ok, but no stopping to escape from Colditz unless the roads are that quick
