    Murphy in UK

Hi, just arrived here. I’m from Suffolk in the UK and I’m currently riding a BMW R1100RS and Triumph Bonneville T120 (1972) that I restored from a basket. Looking seriously at the Honda VFR1200 Crosstourer DCT (2012) so that’s why I’m on here looking for advice and tips on what to look for or avoid when making a purchase.

Hi Murphy and  :400: along to the colleCTive.
One bit of advice I’d give is to check that the bike has had the Honda shaft recall done.
Apart from that they tend to be pretty bullit proof.  :028:

If the recall hasn’t been done will Honda still honour the upgrade?

I forgot about that Dave and have now remembered the rear shock replacement as well. If they have not been done do not buy the bike until they have, both were recalls so Honda should honour that and a good dealer will get them done.

The driveshaft recall was a safety issue (though failures were rare) it will not be effected by warrantee/age. Its very likely its been done or was sold with the upgraded part, worth a check tho.

Was the rear shock a recall Yasko? I know that the ones that failed were replaced with the updated item but I don't think it was actually a recall. Could be wrong as mine was replaced after failing anyway.

Murphy, there were two issues with the rear shock, firsty and very common.

The preload adjuster would sieze, Honda updated the preload knob to incorporate an oring to stop water getting in.

The second which happened to me was the shock dumped it preload oil.

The way to check both is check to see if the knob turns freely, I think there were about 22 clicks from hi to low and check the shock extends. no oil and it will not extend.

    Hope this helps.

It might not have been a recall Paul but they were all changed at my dealer under warranty which made me think it was a recall.

    Hi  :046: Murphy
Not had my CT long, I absolutely love it, just had a small trip to France for Armistice weekend, it just purred along, and the heated grips kept my pinkies all toasty.
Get it bought, you won’t regret.
