Top Box Bracket Nuts Fall Off No Warrenty !!!!!!!

    Hi All,
Just joined as my Top Box fell off on a "level" crossing after 1100 miles only (500 after 1st service). I see several older posts on this. Please add your story as Vertu Honda are trying to tell me it is not a problem they have experienced and are trying to say that someone has obviously tried to steal the box and would you believe !!!! I must have disturbed them and rode 150 miles into the sunset before it fell off.
They do not fit Lock nuts, use locktite or self locking nuts.
I need to quote as many people that have had this problem as possible .
Check your nuts boys and girls every few miles or use locknuts with longer bolts than the inadequate ones Honda use.
If this is Honda's attitude on warrenty claims after 10 weeks ownership it is a 1200GS next for me and my 2 boys .

In 10 minutes searching last night I found 2 other guys that had suddenly lost their top box and Vertu Honda have also admitted they had a case a while ago. So how many are there out there,
Be aware that it can happen after quite a few thousand miles and without warning because once one nut comes loose the others rapidly undue and have no length of thread to rattle on as a warning, 2 turns and it is rolling and sliding down the road at an innocent passer-by !!!
The service manager tells me that they have stopped using lock-tite on them as it causes hassle when they want to take the box bracket off at a later date. (Not really very responsible of them methinks!!)

Absolute rubbish. When I hear drivel like this come from a supposedly trained mechanic let alone a service manager I do wonder if the individual really is capable of doing the job they are paid for.
Bit of free advice for the service manager. Do your job and source a suitable threadlock. Tell you what, I’ll even give him the product. Loctite 243.

That said, Honda really should have spec’d locking nuts.

Not the first report about bad service from Vertu Honda. Collate as much evidence as you can about this failure and contact Honda customer services yourself.

Its a an issue, Honda should use locknuts, I lost mine on the NC500 and the box so so badly damaged that I threw it in a Scottish skip! Now using a Givi.

Vertu Honda eventually agreed to replace the Top box and gave me new bolts and wait for it  - 4 x nylock nuts. No apology or admission was received and the only reason given was that they were putting it through on a warrenty claim - reason not the one I told them me thinks.
    They have lost my business.

    Solution: longer bolts.
