New exhaust is bringing on engine management light.

When I bought my crosstourer it already had an aftermarket exhaust fitted. My friend has just bought a VFR1200F and fitted a nice fruity exhaust. He disconnected the cables to the valve in the exhaust like I have done to every Honda I've owned for the last 15 years. However now the bike has brought on the engine management light.  Any idea for a way round this ?

    Hi DJ,
Are you saying you disconnected the cable to the Lambda sensor?
Why... and of course it will put the light on! Plug it back in and let the ECU do its own adjustments.
Thetrecker. Sometimes your the bug and sometimes your the windshield.

I didn't fit my own exhaust it was already done but I assume the Crosstourer has the same flap that is cable operated as the VFR1200F.  on all my previous bikes I just disconnected the cables but let the motor run thinking it was operating the flap.

CT doesn't have the same flap like the FD

And its strange that disconnecting the cable will turn on the light since the servo motor operating it is still connected (I did exactly this to my VFR with no issues)....or can you confirm that the electrical plug to the servo is still connected? It's underneath the right rear-quarter cowl.

Worst case, you can pull the codes from the MIL and find out exactly what's responsible for it. :038:

Electrical plug is stil connected.Ive had several Fireblades and A CBF1000 on which removing the cables and changing the exhaust had no issues. Strange.

    DJ

if the exhaust was fitted when you bought it, are you sure its the exhaust thats causing the issue, was the light coming on when you bought it?

(on the 1200F disconnecting the cable was fine but if you removed the servo motor, the engine management light would come one)

Most likely it is EXUP (or whatever honda calls it). We don't have it on x-tourer, but F 172hp version has it.
