    Exhaust discoloration!

With close to 10,000km on the clock, I have noticed a slight yellowing of my stock Honda exhaust.  :003: :003: :003: It is so obvious as the heat shield at the lower part of the exhaust has maintained its clean new appearance while the exhaust beneath it is glaringly showing a yellowing. :003:

    Is this the general experience?

My first VFR1200FD has close to 50K and the second 20K and non showed a discolored stock exhaust. Am I missing something or this is just the way things are?

Mine has a kind of brownish colour to it. Not sure about yellow.

Yeah, i noticed a little discolouration on my exhaust last week when i cleaned the bike.
I will monitor it and see if cleaning substances will remove it.   :028: :305:
keep it shiny side up !!!

If you pour/spray water on a hot exhaust say, just after a spin and before you put it in a shed it will discolour it. You have to wait till it cools down

the VFR1200F's exhaust has a stainless steel cover spaced off and bolted onto the inner steel exhaust, its not in hard contact, so I would have thought it would get hot enough to discolour

I take it we are talking silencer, not the downpipes?

Yes Superduper, its the silencer! And the 1200F never showed any discoloration.

    Sad to see this happening.

I ride in all kind of weather and if what Thetrecker say is the way things are, then it's quite disappointing that this is happening. Afterall. it is pretending to be an adventure bike :018: :018:

All this is pointing to the need to look for my wallet and the Akrapovic store! :152: The perfect excuse!

My whole exhaust has taken on a "golden" hue.  It get's way hot sitting in traffic here.  At least that's what I attribute it to.
Bikes are like women.  What you want and what you think you want change after the first ride.
