Hello everybody, I got my new VFR1200X as it is called here just as winter is arriving. I rode it 25 miles home from the dealer in D mode and it sits in the garage as snow is falling.
I'm 71 years old, riding since 1964 and traded in my 3 wheel Can Am RT Limited to go back on two wheels.

A couple of first impressions based on all of 25 miles of riding...I need to make a few changes so I fit better. I am 6'8" and around 300 lb.
call it 2 meters tall and 140kg for the rest of the world out there. I'll be looking for a taller windshield and a footpeg lowering kit.

The first thing I did was drive off with the handbrake on...went about a block and it dawned on me, no damage done as far as I can tell.
I liked everything about it other than fit issues. It appears to handle well, strong engine for sure, brakes too, handling- well for those short miles it seemed just fine.

I can't wait for the warm weather to return and I look forward to learning a lot here. Nobody I know has ever even heard of the 1200X/Crosstourer and I don't think I'll be seeing another very soon around here.

best wishes and all the joys of the season to you all
    Joe

    Welcome Joe.  :400:

My bike came with a Honda touring screen which has been fine for me (6-foot tall), but there are more opinions about screens on this forum than you can shake a stick at, so do a search and read what others have said to help you choose which one to try first.

Likewise, there are a few forum members who have lowered the footpegs, so you should be able to get some views on that too.

I have a manual (non-DCT) bike, so no risk of me leaving the brake on!

    Cheers,

    Jon

    Welcome Joe from Tennessee!!

At 6'2", I really liked that the VFR1200x didn't look tiny, like my Aprilia does under me.    But I can't imagine wanting lowering pegs!

I've bought a couple pair of those Knight Industry drop peg setups on my VFR800's before and found them to be of good quality, but not cheap.   I'd recommend those first.

Joe welcome from Colorado. It is nice to see another US based CT. I got mine 11/3/2017 and now have nearly 1500 miles on it. This is a great bike and currently have no complaints. Since it is winter here the first upgrade was heated grips. Used the $13 accessory sub harness for the wiring. Also tied the GPS and a USB plug in as well.

I have Gerbings heated gear to carry over from previous bikes, including gloves, so I am going to pass on the heated grips. I also have a Garmin 590 that I took off my Can Am and that I'll have to figure out a mount for and wiring tie in for.

Where in CO are you? Over the last 10 years I've crossed the country about 20 times and spent a good amount of time in CO from the front range to Steamboat to Cortez and most everywhere that has blacktop. I must say I am a flatlander and don't do all that well at 8000 feet and above.

    Come on Spring!

    Joe
