VFR1200 shaft drive info
« on: December 11, 2017, 08:17:34 PM »
Just found this a very interesting read, it's from the Honda blurb for the 1200F but as the swingarms are the same on F and X,  it's valid for both. I never realised it had so much design.

As good as they 'thought' its design was ....

it ended causing them major headaches as we all had to have uprated shaft drives due to dodgy joints on the shafts under a worldwide safety recall after some shaft seized and caused accidents

At least honda recognised a fault and admitted to it, I've had BMW paralever shafts fail repeatedly and BMW don't want to know.

Which model year bikes started getting the updated parts straight from the factory before delivery to dealers?

I'm not sure bud, I think it was for the earlier bikes, I'd heard about it before ordering mine (2017) and as seems to be sorted now. I believe only a handful of bikes had an actual failure. Although I'm sure I'll be corrected.😁

A little Google work and the answer is:

A VIN range of bikes made from Feb 20, 2014 to Sept 2, 2015.    Total number of VFR1200X Crosstourer's affected - 111

I may be wrong but I seem to remember these stats  were translated from a Japanese  publication and only concerned  home market machines
