    Quiz: Repair Cost

So, my bike was parked on the road while I went into the Post Office. Just as I get to the counter, there's a loud crash outside and I see some dipsh1t driving a rubbish truck has just driven into my bike and knocked it over. Included in the damage list is scratching on the final gear assembly (hit the kerb) - see below:

I have the repair quote from Mr Honda. The plastic cover costs A$64.50. Any guesses for the cost to fix the gear assembly?

I would visit a dealer with that pic and get a parts total plus labor for replacement.  Then get the cash from offender and stock up on tires or accessories.  That is not functional looking damage but some compensation at least would be nice for living with the insult of those marks.   Without even havind a nice crash story to tell...

Well, the answer is A$3,822 plus labour. That's around 2,500 of your British Pounds or Euros, $2,900 of your US Dollars.

Who'd have thought it? Apparently it's too complicated to just buy the casing and transfer the internals ("it needs special tools, shims, blah blah blah ...").

@Fastnlight - tried that, but I'm claiming from my insurance company who require repair receipts to claim the costs from the insurer of the idiot that crashed into it. I'd much sooner live with the scratching and spend the $$ on improving the suspension!

BTW - The total repair estimate is A$7,100  :005:

For your own good - don't do it. This is indeed very complicated - I do a lot of work with axle gears(Mustang) and trust
me - it's complicated and only a few can do it right. I would just have it polished and painted - no biggie.

It's no biggie colngezsct - I got the details of the guy who hit it (a rubbish truck is not a great getaway vehicle  :038:) and there were people sitting out in front of a couple of cafes that saw him do it. His insurer is footing the bill.

I'm just shocked at the cost to fix it all.
