    Iphone/Intercom questions

    Hello,
I've recently been thinking of fitting a GPS type thing to my bike. However, still unsure what I need or should go for.

    1. I have a IPhone 6Plus. Is there any waterproof covers which can be adapted to fit on to the bike like a normal GPS, and still allow for it to be charged on the go so to speak?

    2. I have an intercom (Cardo Scala Q1) fitted to my helmet. The problem being that I find the controls hard to use with winter gloves, heavy textiles on. This is more so when trying to control volume on the move. How far round to the front can I fit this before it causes wind noise problems, or is there a conversion kit that I can move it to the bars to operate etc

    3. Should I just fit as proper GPS and not bother trying to mount the phone?

    Cheers
    Slomo

Typically you can get a bike standard and waterproof zumo from aldi for £120 (not on offer just now).
Not the greatest, compared to the best, but I am happy with mine and I prefer to keep my phone safely tucked away. It will connect with Bluetooth to your headset.

    Hi Slomo,

there is this brand Interphone, which makes waterproof cases directly for Iphones (and other brands). I guess this could solve your 1. question.

Slomo I have the same phone and intercom but I also have a zumo which is Bluetooth so my phone stays in my pocket. I take it you want to use your phone as a sat nav too?

    Hi Mal,
Yes I was thinking along those lines. I have satnav for the car which I'm sure I can also fit to the bike...but I was thinking using the phone would be one thing less so to speak.

    I have one of these:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172296744626

It comes with all that's required to clamp it to the bars, but mine is attached to a Navihalter (similar to Migsel) mount so it sits above the clocks.

I used a Dremel to make a small hole to fit the lightning connector through.

I couldn't afford a motorcycle specific satnav unit so decided to purchase one of these to use with my iPhone along with a waterproof 3m charging cable and have been well happy with the results.

I have previously used the Twisty Ride case for my iPhone 6S.  Just taken delivery of the latest case for the  7 Plus. Previous case was brilliant but looking forward to trying the new slimline version.

Also tried Tigra cases but I prefer  the Twisty Ride.
