A morning ride to the Montsec (S of Pyrenées)

    Hello all,

here are some pics I took yesterday morning in the Montsec area. I hope you will like them (click on pics to enlarge)

The Montsec (="Drymount"   :002: ) is a mountain range S of the Pyrenees, the last one before the Lleida plain in central West Catalonia. This range, which was for two-three centuries border between Christian and Muslim kingdoms is nowadays visited by the likes of rock climbers, mushroom pickers or skywatchers.

My goal was to see landscapes, and follow small roads.

Early in the morning it was cool (12ºC) and somewhat cloudy and foggy at the Monestir de les Avellanes

As it was up the Coll d'Àger. But it seemed to be sunny in the Montsec.

    Indeed

At the top of the Coll d'Ares (I know of three with such name) the high Pyrenées can be seen

At the col bottom, I wanted to visit the tower of Alsamora (11th century)

There's a valley leading to the dam of Terradets (next to Tremp)

Then I headed up to the Montsec de Rúbies

    Colors of autumn

Finally, a small "gorge" led me to Vilanova de Meià and the plain

    And that was it!

    Greetings

    Josep
