surface crack on rear tire after 8000KM?
on: June 21, 2015, 11:29:06 AM
I have around 8000KM done on my CT and loving every minute of it. I have noticed that the rear tire has developed quite a nasty surface crack and was wondering if this would need replacement, and if yes would this be covered under warranty? I have attached a picture for you all to comment on. They are the stock tires that came with the bike, perelli scorpio.

Thanks in advance,

i will probably get it changed, rather safe than sorry. However i though i would just post to see other opinions which is the purpose of the forum, i believe. Especially if my mates have done close to double the distance before replacing theirs on similar bikes and tires so it raises the question, was i short changed? Do i have a claim? What distance have other riders done before replacement? The thread on my tires are still pretty good. Really interested on other opinions. cheers :030:

looks like you've run over something sharp, maybe even a sharp stone. It's a used tyre so I really don't think you'll get any refund, especially with 8000kms.

Hi Tonninods
Looking at the picture the damage is not due to tyre failure but something else that has cut it and the chances of getting a warranty claim would not be worth following up with. I would also suspect the warranty would not cover it classing it as wear and tear.

Sorry time for a new tyre and there is plenty of advise for which one to go for on hera.

Hi Tonninods,
Its something you crossed by the looks of it. If you can determine the depth of the cut compared to the depth of the thread on that particular part of the tyre, you may be able to ride another few klms safely before replacement. Forget about warranty, its unlikely at this usage.

8000km is ok on a rear in my opinion . And that crack looks nasty - I would change it [emoji6]
