New CT Owner saying Hi
on: April 26, 2015, 11:13:08 AM
Picked up my new CT Highlander DCT in Black/White ltd edition colour (nice) yesterday.
So far so good except for a couple of niggles. The dealer has issued the number plate ending in "K" it should be "X". Doh!!! The other thing is probably my incompetence. I cannot get the Top Box/Vanity Case off. It seems straightforward. Turn the key to "open" and release the latch. It won't budge and seems to be held somewhere else. It can't be that hard surely. I feel stupid even mentioning it but it's driving me nuts :).

Having had a couple of GS's over the years, it's great to get back to a bike that not everyone has. The Explorer and GS are undoubtedly great bikes. But honestly for the type of riding I do the CT is perfect. Got a great deal with the 0% finance, 3 years warranty and the 3 year service package. Just need to get this bloody top box off. Any help gratefully received.

Thump it towards the front of the bike. (hold on to it as it can fly off).

Welcome!!!

Glad I wasn't the only one with a top box issue..  :038:

Out of interest...was that colour scheme only on the DCT...cos I'm a bit jealous...!!!

Did you get a Tank pad in your Highlander deal?

Are your panniers/top box keyed alike?
It all started with a 1959 Vespa 125 Super.......

 :400: Steve.
I also came from a GS but find the CT superior in many ways, least of all it's a bloody site more reliable, without doubt the best road bike I've owned by far.
As to the top box, I also had the same problem, in the end and after numerous attempts I rang the dealer for advice. He assured me that I wasn't the only person who was a little reluctant to give it a healthy shove.
Any chance of posting a couple of pics Steve, would love to see the colour scheme.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Managed to get the top box off with hill's help  :002:
No tank pad or accessory socket, I have quired the accessory socket though.
The top box is keyed to the ignition, but the side boxes have a separate key. Which is piss poor imho. The other annoying thing is you can't leave the Tox Box unlocked, so you have to turn off the bike to get in it. I like doing the Rallies. National/Welsh and RBR, so I often stop and open my TB. I'll have to use the spare key on a separate keyring I guess.

This colour scheme is only available on the DCT. I was going to get a manual, but the colour made me change my mind. Glad i did, loving the DCT it.
Pics to follow
