Need urgent help.
on: April 14, 2015, 09:20:41 PM
Hi guys,

A friend of mine broke the drive shaft of the universal joint (what we call in Spanish "Cardan" ) of his manual Crosstourer 3 days ago. And I know of another of the spanish CT forum members with the same problem at about 60.000 km in the odometer, both of them.

So far, Honda refuses to face the facts and repair.

Has anyone had a similar case as this and please could help as with any advice?

Thanks very much indeed.

Cheers.

These are the images of the breakage:

In the images you can see two different drive shafts.

I have had my drive shaft broken exactly a week ago with 63000km on odo. I am very dissapointed about it. Got struck at easter holiday in eastern europe. Still waiting the bike to be brought back and see what Honda says. I am just out of warranty now.
Around the world and back ... driven Honda motorbikes all over Europe, Australia, NewZealand, Japan, Russia .....

NOT AT ALL SUPRISED TO HEAR THIS HONDA REPLACED MY DRIVESHAFT AFTER I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BACKLASH AND NOISE IT MADE. DEALER TOLD ME IT COST £2000.ALTHOUGH IT WAS BETTER I WAS STILL NOT HAPPY WITH IT AND SUSPECTED IT WOULD BE A PROBLEM AS THE MILES INCREASED. I THINK IT IS A DESIGN FAULT IV'E HAD MANY BIKES WITH SHAFT DRIVE BUT NEVER HAD BACKLASH OR NOISE PROBLEMS BEFORE.REAL SHAME EXCELLENT BIKE BUT COULD NOT LIVE WITH IT SPOILT IT FOR ME. NOW SOLD.

Wow.  :024:

Thanks everyone for your cooperation. This seems a serious problem that can arise in a good amount of our bikes when they have around 60 or 65.000 Km.

I think selling the bike is not the solution. We should do something altogether like writing some different letters to Honda Europe or writing a note as a group.

My Crosstourer makes some annoying noise coming from the drive shaft since it was new... it's a sort of clac clac clac when I ride it at low speeds. Maybe this is affecting the drive shaft and weakening it till it ends with a breakage or something worse.

Any suggestions?
