BMW Riders just don't do it!
on: July 13, 2013, 04:58:59 PM
Wave. BMW riders don't wave back!

I was out riding with my son last Sunday in the Eifel - we went down to the Nürburgring to listen to the F1 cars through the fence - at over €250 for a ticket we weren't going inside!

On the way back after passing loads of bikes, my son said over the Cardo "why do only BMW riders not wave back?" I had been thinking it as well, but when he said it, I knew it wasn't just me.

Is it just in Germany, or is it more widespread? Strange.  :027:

No not exclusive to Germany. I find they are , shall we say a different breed  to most and that's whether they are in a car or on two wheels :-)

I second that Colin  :028: Just got back from a very hot I might say { 33'C showing on the clock while doing 80mph  :164:}80 mile ride . I met 2 GS's which I gave the  nod to, without any response ,and not for the first time . I know there are a good few ex GS owners on this forum now, so not to tar every GS owner with the same brush, but could they shed any light on why so many GS riders do not acknowledge  you ? Do they think that they are a snobby class above everyone else, and no other rider is worth a glance ?
As far as I'm concerned life's too short, but from now on they can all kiss my  :230: :192:

Just 3 days ago, we were having the exact same debate with my rider mates. Some of them GS owners, haha.

We couldn't precisely name the source of this behaviour, this lack of etiquette, but it remains a fact: If you blow the horn-nod you head - wave your hand, chances are you will be ignored, lets say, 75% of the time, if the rider is on a BMW. From BMW to BMW, it is a different story, my friends say.

If the guy in question is a jerk, that doesn't mean I have to be one as well, so I wave every time I can, even when I know I'm most likely gonna be ignored.

After 11 years of GS ownership I never really noticed it until brought up here but there is a definite them and us attitude
Just remember it when you wave at them as they are sitting at the side of the road awaiting recovery :430:
