Cheers to Biff and MisterB for their pointers on our weekend tour.
Stayed in the Great Langdale National Trust campsite for 2 nights and it was a great base to tour the Lakes.3 pubs within 10 minutes provided ok grub and good beer although 9.45pm closing time on Friday (11 on Sat night) is totally confusing for an Irishman!
Done the Wrynose and Hardnott pass which were amazing and showed up to bad effect the far too tall first gear. Had tea at Eskdale railway station and then up the coast to Sellafield ( It makes the news a lot over here) and got pulled by police for looking suspicious but then chatted to them and had a few laughs before moving on. The B5292 pass and the A591 back to Ambleside is pretty.
The A65 down through the Yorkshire dales is a great bike road and the weather on Sat was super with endless bikes out to wave at. Done the Cat and Fiddle and had more tea at the midway Pub and spoke to a few of the many bikers enjoying the day. Had a quick look at Haddon hall on the A6 and witnessed the bike meet in Matlock Bath, Its a sight to see a casual meet like this, its normally a big event to see this many bikes in Ireland. After Matlock the A6 is horrible 30mph speed limits for miles.
Sunday was again sunny and we enjoyed a great days racing although Donnington Park itself is crap for facilities in every area and its easy to see why Silverstone wins the bigger events. They have had long enough to get their act together.
Monday was a howler of a day on the way back to Holyhead with high winds making riding conditions tricky.
Missed the chance to meet Telbert at Donnington but hope we can arrange a meet again sometime ( and others of course). Watched closely all the time but never saw another CT, the closest was a crossrunner!
Thanks again T
