Run around Scotland
on: April 22, 2013, 09:38:10 PM
I've been thinking of going for a hurl up round Scotland. A bit of a 'see if I can do it' type thing.

I'm thinking of the following route. Starting early morning and coming hame for a nice bath at night. I've never went this far in a day, so god knows if I will manage. What's your thoughts on it?

Peterhead
Dufftown
Inverness
Lairg
Tongue
John'o Groats
Inverness
Fort Bill (nearly) before doubling back up the Laggan Road.
Dufftown
Peterheid

Google reckons 602miles.
What do you mean it's raining....get ootside and ride the thing.

I would not like to do it !
I did just over 250 miles on Sunday, in total in the saddle for about 5 hours, according to tomtom, was glad to get home !

Hi slomo, the ride is probably possible as you would be alone and free to ride and stop whenever it suits you but unless you are attempting some sort of 'iron butt' challenge why rush? Why not do 1 x nights B&B around Ullapool then if the weather is OK you could fit in a visit to Applecross via the coast road and return over the 'pass of the cattle and Kyle of Lochalsh? (one of fav roads)

We are coming up there on 9th May for 4 nights and planning only about 1200 miles as the sports bikes need fuel every 100 miles maximum :164:  and we want to stop and sightsee/take photos etc. Also a group of 9 riders always causes delays at fuel/food stops :015:

@Steve..... the roads are a lot quieter up in the Highlands so constant 'making progress' is possible

Have a good one and mind those duststorms :001:

(i was going from Inverurie to Forres last Tuesday and around Elgin way it was like driving through a desert sandstorm, had to put the headlights on as it was that bad) i was told it was due to a delayed start to the ploughing season and the soil was so dry it just crumbled to a dust enabling the winds to carry it along

I've been the roads a few times before apart from the Lairgs route to Tongue. Just fancy trying it to see. I did the Scourie, Ullapool, Tongue, JoG's plus some other places added for good measure with some of the guys on the T's. 750miles in a couple of days. Cracking couple of days:)

It's just a thought at the moment though.

I`d probably book a night at the Crask in, between Lairg and Tongue. Damn good coffee there (Italian, the owner told me) and authentic place/people!
