Oil usage
on: April 02, 2013, 07:32:22 PM
Has anyone had to top up the engine oil between services?

Leave for Spain this Saturday and expect to do about 3,000 miles round trip and was wondering is it worth while taking a small bottle of oil with me for a top up or will it be taking up unnecessary space.

All the Hondas I've had since 1998 (VFR800i, 3 x VFR800 V-Tec's, 3 x ST1300's) and I've never had to add one single drop of oil between services. :169:

Cheers Doc

You can tell then that I came from BMW !

Just asking because a friend who had a Varadero and an ST110 said they both used oil between services, not as much as BMW, but just curios as to whether or not the VFR1200 engine uses any.

Of all the Hondas I've had, none of them needed oil between services, the engines are that good providing they have not been used and abused ;-)

I've never heard of a newish (under 50,000km) big 4-Stroke Honda using any oil, at least for the past 15 years. However, there's always an exception.

Just think of all the money you'll save now you haven't got a BM - More money for Farkles! :046:

After 10 years and 3 Beemers, this is the first bike that doesn`t use a drop of oil....

Having owned Honda’s continuously from 99 I can only think that if your using oil you have issues with your bike.

I can’t claim the mileage that Allroadtoad registers annually but my Pan has 70,000 miles on it and the engine runs like new (crap compared to the CT) I’m now chain free and the only fluid I carry is visor cleaner.

I trust in Honda engineering, even to the extent that I have reduced the tool kit down to equipment that will only access fuses, bulbs and a puncture repair kit.

sounds like the start of a new thread? “What tools do you carry when touring”
