What fuel do you use : 95 octane or 98 octane
on: February 28, 2013, 11:29:35 AM
Here in Belgium, you have 2 kinds of fuel (besides gasoline): 95 octane and 98 octane.
Which do you use in your CT ? My dealer swears with 98, more power and less consumption ? Does he has a point there ?

95 is bloody expensive as it is, let alone going to the premium unleaded 98. Surely any power increase would be marginal anyway !

Check out Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

Basically 98 only good for high performance bikes/cars that are set up for it. Save money and use 95.
I did use it in my ZX10R but couldn't actually tell you if it made a real difference as my riding styles tended to change depending on my moods and the fuel consumption moved up & down as well as the performance.
I love talking about nothing. It is the only thing I know anything about.

SIMPLES !!!!

95 RON or Higher - recommended in handbook! :002:

95 RON - Works - Engine designed for it !! :152:

Go Higher - More EXPENSIVE. :004:  Well is in UK. !!

95 RON - and stay with it.
Unless of course you want to throw your money away.  :005:

These days, engine management systems are quiet clever (I believe). The better the fuel you put in the tank, the better, and more efficient the engine runs. Remember, RON 95 is the LOWEST that the bike will run OK on. On RON 98, it runs (or should run) much better.

I use 98 and my fuel consumption seems to be better, and the bike seems to runs better - so my CT seems to prefer it.  :305:
However, it may be all in the mind.

I think the extra 50p extra a tankful costs is worth it  :002:

m   mmm... nearly afraid to comment here... :038:
Noticed on my previous Aprilia Twin that it ran much smoother on 98, can't see the same difference on the CT, may'be as Doc says- the management system is able to adapt better.
Any grade of petrol is heading for the same price as liquid gold...
