New Toll for Stelvio Pass
on: February 11, 2013, 06:58:12 PM
You had better take an extra €10 with you this year if you're planning on riding up (down sucks) the Stelvio pass. You have to pay at a ticket machine either at the bottom or top. Tickets (Vignette) are valid for seven days.

It's worth it though  :305:

Downhill can still be FUN

EVERY pass they rode up was followed by an NUKB downhill freewheeling challenge!!!

I drove the sprinter support van up Stelvio in 2011 with this bunch of mates from NUKB, one of the lads filmed this on-bike footage of the FREEWHEEL race down again (bit of a pity he was at the front most of the time really) he actually ran out of video battery life before he ran out of momentum (or gravity?)

It gets faster from around 20 minutes in and they start the 'silent overtakes'  :008:

i also got a days pillion ride and borrowed a bike for another full day so i wasn't completely bikeless

Also done this freewheeling down Hardnot, Wrynose and Kirkstone in the lake district

Stelvio Free Wheel race from the top all the way to Stelvio village

I would suspect the Stelvio will be the first with more to follow when they realise the potential income

Great video, watched it all the way down - never thought of doing that before, but then again, on my ST1300 I'd still be there now  :745:

The things young lads do to save fuel  :112:
Whether I'm going up or down a pass, I like to be there first  :007:  Still waiting to take the CT to the Alps - roll on June!  :046:

Sadly, I believe you may be right.

I've just finished my route for a 7-day trip to the Dolomites (22-28 June), and I've included going up Stelvio and across the Umbrail pass on the return leg - the Umbrail is the closest I'll get to off-road this year :002:

Can't wait - DCT Sport-Mode will be on overtime  :020:
