Tax disc position
« on: October 17, 2012, 06:17:28 PM »
Its a very wet night, so I'm in the garage with the bike, and wondering, where is the best place to have the tax disc?. The dealer has on on the front mudguard, sandwiched between the block for the brakes and the mudguard. Its a cheapo holder and already the disc is wet. Looking around the bike, there are not many positions to locate it though, anyone have any better solutions? As I said, its a very wet night......

Mines on the left side bolt for the cowl ornament (dummy crrash bar) in a theft proof holder (the one with little nuts and bolts all the way around. It is exposed but seems to have stayed dry inside.

If its any consolation it will dry out, have the same problem but can't be bothered doing anything with it yet.

On dirt bikes i usually laminate the tax disc and wrap it around the upper fork leg than cable tie it above and below the disc itself.

Alternatively you can buy clear vinyl and cover the tax disc with it but it is more 'PERMANENT', in this situation i usually do a colour photocopy to display with COPY written across it and keep the real tax disc in my wallet in case i ever get stopped. It is technically an offence but its allways going to show up as taxed if they check via the DVLA anyway.

Having said all that i haven't thought about the CT disc yet..........i'll look into it at the weekend :157:

Hi Paperman;

I managed to fit the tax disc on the right hand side using the lower mudguard bolt, just enough space to clear the brake calliper etc.
(Also laminated the tax disc to keep it from disintegrating)

Q: Oldhand, aren't they supposed to be on the left side of the bike for the roadside scanners?

Hi Manno;  I'm sure you are correct (not sure about roadside scanners though but think the disc should be on the left of the vehicle - to the letter of the law at any rate! but no issues so far in 4000 miles) I remember trying the left hand 1st, but there were bits and pieces in the way so the only remaining option at the time was on the right.   :002:
