Rear Brake Light Assembly Noise!!
« on: September 23, 2012, 04:51:52 AM »
Been riding a few dirt roads and never could understand what was banging/ knocking at the rear end, so today i decided to investigate it further
Found this in the video, seems the rear light assembly needs some padding and the top box bracket a bit of work as well.
This is the trouble with such a quite bike you can hear every small sound!!
I hate trying to find faults, but wonder if you guys have similar movement and sound from the light assembly??

no sound but my tail light moves up and down, got the guys in the shop to have a quick squiz and they had a look on the compouter at the parts diagram and sure enough there were two fairly large rubber bushes allowing movement so it doesn't get damaged on rough roads

will keep an eye on it but have not discovered any other movement anywhere

Decided to take the little bugger in bits as its to hot to ride today 36 Deg
You can see from the pictures in the two bottom corners where the light assy is banging, and strange to have one piece if rubber strip at the top and not the bottom???
Maybe my little Asian friends forgot to put them on??

i'd be keen to take the tupperware off mine and compare

can you give me destructions of how to get to it as it looks fairly well sealed - and i will post pics so we can compare, indeed strange about the rubber at the top and not the bottom ... the rubber looks like it should be top right as well

Hi, took my stuff off to have a look after work today...jeez bit of a drama but you live and learn

anyway mine looks exactly like yours, not entirely happy with the padding although I see that the holding screws and grommets look to do the job

banging on plastic over hard bumps doesn't sound good though and if I tap it hard enough it does the same as yours in the vid, maybe a trip to the hardware store for some weather seal ~ sticky sided foam to stop it banging on the bottom?

I wondered why the rubber or foam pad on the top left isn't on the top right but i see under that pad is a slight step out to harbour the rubber but no step out on the top right – there must be method to their madness because they did that during the manufacturing process

I noticed exactly the same thing on my bike. Took a while to track now what the knocking was.

Had a quick look at it one day and decided getting at it was too much of a pain so I just cut up a piece of old bike inner tube folded it a couple of times and stuffed it in the gap under the light. Seems to have done the trick :047:

Every shed has a bit of old rubber lying around somewhere :008:
