So finally I've got my bike after a six long weeks of waiting! Red, DCS and ready to make some nice km's starting this weekend.

But….

Can anybody confirm the story that the Honda panniers are not waterproof?

My panniers are still new and I'm asking myself the question if I should return them to my dealer because of this rumor. Especially the top box should have some worrying rain problems.

Based on your own experience, what would you advice. Keep them or lose them.

Thx,
Bob

Hey Bob,

I can't vouch for the Honda boxes but I can say that over the years I've never had any problems with Givi.

It may be worth looking into ditching them while you can and going the Givi route.

And if you haven't done so already, run a search in Google and see if there are any reviews or comments out there in the ether...

Cheers,

Hitty

My 1st week included 1800 miles of pissing down rain and approx 3 drips managed to get into my panniers and a bit more into my topbox near the hinges, not bad considering what they were subjected to but NO they were not watertight ............are any?

They look great on the bike but the zipper on the topbox is a complete joke as the hinge side doesn't even expand

I had a demo for a few days and got caught in some heavy showers. The top box had about a quarter pint in it under the flimsy base liner when i got home. Gone for Givi now on my bike. A zip on a top box! Come on Honda. Form over function?

Hi I have the Honda top box and panniers and the only time they have let water in has been when I hosed them down after yet another wet ride out I am completely satisfied with them

I can't say anything about Honda cases, but my experience with Givi is very good; I've never had problems with it (E41 Sidecases and old Maxia50 topbox).
It doesn’t matter the fast you go, but the far you arrive ...

Do you have any photos of your CT with the E41's fitted ?

Thinking of using mine but before I buy a frame I wondered what they look like ?

Well thanks for the replies and advice.

Resume: no worries left and right, but the top box may turn into a little pool that can ruin your camera gear for instance.

Not the build quality that I expected for such expensive genuine Honda panniers!

Still, most of the time the panniers are not mounted and I like the fact that my bike don't need any additional mounting brackets this way.

So I decided to keep the panniers and will buy a simple rain cover for the top box. Problem solved.

By the way Honda:  :192:
