Manual gearbox...
« on: July 29, 2012, 04:51:48 PM »
Do all manual CT's do an almighty clunk when downchanging from 3rd to 2nd or am I being too heavy footed?  :435:

no the gearbox is very refined and requires little effort to change up or down :157: :821:

Following the silky smooth gearbox of my Triumph Tiger the CT gearbox is quite clunky. I believe Honda followers call this "positive", I would call it clunky!
The box feels a bit clunky between 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the other gears seem fine so possibly just the ratios?

Yes you're right,  the higher gears snick in lovely either up or down but the bottom 3 clunk in with a bit of a 'kadoosh' unless the revs are really low. I'm finding the high 2nd gear and shaft drive is taking a bit of getting used to around town.

On another note:-

I could have sold tickets for viewings today when it was parked up at Helmsley.
There's the same bike at the dealers and absolutely no interest in it whatsover!  :187:

I have a clunk into 1st and from from 1st into 2nd going up and clunk into 1st coming down, which for me is normal as I had the same on the 900 Hornet and in lessor amount on the XR400 - so for me nothing out of the ordinary  :018:
however, after reading your post and go for a ride I now notice it more  :003:

:430: Sorry Jacob. I'm pretty sure i'm hitting the gear lever too hard. Going for a ride today in different boots.

Coming from a GS, I find the gearbox is fine, but there is more backlash in the transmission than I would have expected.  No major proble :430:m, though.

Downshifting at higher revs and no more 'kadoosh' from 3rd to 2nd.
Just me being a shaft newbie i reckon.  :138:
